As per the directive issued by the Office of the Prime Minister on 31 January 2011, the  General Staff Electronic Systems (GES) Command, conducting signal intelligence operations, was handed over to MİT on 01 January 2012. With the handover of this unit, which was renamed as the Signal Intelligence Directorate (SİB) on 15 May 2012, the  overlapping structure in the signal intelligence field was eliminated and the signal intelligence efficiency was improved significantly.
