What We Do
We conduct external activities in order to protect the territory, sovereignty, citizens, and interests of Türkiye against foreign threats. In line with national security and strategic interests, we collaborate with domestic and foreign units when necessary. Adapting to external developments and global changes, we constantly review our strategies to keep one step ahead of emerging threats.
We gather rapid and precise cross-border intelligence, conduct targeted operations, and present analyses and projections to decision-makers . Along with active contributions to shape foreign policy dynamics of Türkiye, we also maintain effective relations with foreign partners on bilateral and multilateral platforms and conduct intelligence diplomacy.
We adopt a proactive operation principle and utilize a dynamic organizational structure to create new opportunities in ever-changing global dynamics and to closely follow geo-political changes, technological advancements, and emerging security issues.
We ensure that our personnel are well-informed with regard to the latest intelligence procedures and methods, as well as improve their occupational proficiency and personal skills through national or international training programs, scientific meetings and seminars. We focus on constant improvement and being updated so as to be one step ahead in the intelligence field.
Along with occupational trainings, the newly hired personnel are also provided with basic information regarding legislations in force, ethical principles, and fundamental aspects of intelligence activities; we encourage ethical conduct, teamwork, and devotion to values that define our Organization.
Besides, we share information and experience with external post-graduate and PhD students under the National Intelligence Organization Academy. This ensures outreach to a larger academic community and contributes to training future experts in intelligence and security. We believe this collaborative approach flourishes training experience of our personnel and establishes an information exchange network that strengthens the intelligence community as a whole.
We ensure intelligence coordination with the Ministries and other public institutions and organizations creating the intelligence required to fulfil their duties, obtaining the needed information and intelligence, countering intelligence, and delivering the obtained information and intelligence related to national security to MİT.
Additionally, we exchange information and collaborate with Ministries, all kinds of organizations, institutions, foreign intelligence services and individuals that might contribute to our own duties and activities. We can establish direct contact with institutions or individuals to enhance our information collection capabilities, and implement appropriate coordination methods.
We conduct operations to detect and prevent espionage activities of foreign states, intelligence services, institutions/agencies, and individuals against Türkiye. Such operations include taking security measures to limit information and resources available to intelligence collectors (secrecy); providing intelligence collectors with false, deficient, or contradictory information to obscure the truth and prevent them from making right decisions (misleading); determining the identity, location, intention, resources, weaknesses, and methods of intelligence collectors (counter-intelligence); conducting active or passive interventions to prevent, disrupt, or undermine intelligence collectors’ operations (counter-activity); and counteracting or neutralizing enemy propaganda aimed at influencing the perception, attitude, beliefs or behaviours of intelligence analysts or decision-makers (counter-propaganda).
We conduct operational activities abroad to protect our country and look out for strategic interests. We carry out special operations against various subversive and separatist organizations and counter terrorist activities posing a threat to our country from foreign territories. We take strategic measures to identify and counter the individuals and groups involved in such activities, and ensure our national security.
We conduct technical operations utilizing all sorts of technical intelligence methods, tools, and systems to fulfil our law-assigned duties, including collecting, recording, and analysing information, documents, news, and data regarding cyber threats and security. We conduct our operations with complete awareness that keeping up with technological developments and improving cutting edge technology, as well as sustaining international cooperation in cases of cyber threats beyond our borders are of critical importance. Knowing that technological advancements expand the influence and improve the capabilities of cyber enemies trying to exploit security flaws with malicious intent, we reinforce our defences with cyber security. Since technology and therefore cyber threats are constantly changing and evolving, we conduct cyber intelligence activities in a dynamic fashion.
We intercept and analyse communication and radar signals, including early warning signals, and convert these into intelligence by utilizing communication and non-communication signals. Intelligence collected with critical purposes such as decrypting enemy communication, supporting military operations, preventing terrorism, and taking pre-emptive measures against threats is compiled and submitted to relevant authorities.
We conduct operations to prevent and eliminate any and all domestic and foreign threats against the integrity, existence, independence, security, Constitutional order, and institutions of the Republic of Türkiye, especially emanating from ethnic separatist terrorist organizations, parallel structures, radical terrorist organizations, extreme leftist terrorist organizations, and all other forms of terrorist activity.
We submit reports to establish a baseline for the preparation and conduct of the national security plans of the state in countering terrorism, establish international cooperation and coordination, and conduct operational activities in line with the objectives .
