After the Military Coup of 12 September 1980, the MİT Law was amended, and Law No. 644 on the National Intelligence Organization was replaced with Law No. 2937 on State Intelligence Services and National Intelligence Organization  of 01 November 1983. In accordance with  this new law taking effect as of 01 January 1984, MİT was subordinated  directly  to the Prime Minister himself  instead of the Office of the Prime Minister, while the duties of MAH Directorate operating within MİT  were transferred to Internal  and External Intelligence Directorates, abolishing MAH Directorate as a whole.
