ŞÜKRÜ ÂLİ ÖGEL

A graduate of the Turkish Military Academy, Şükrü Âli Ögel joined the army with Lieutenant rank on 13 August 1909 and took part in Western Front Cadre in the War of Independence. During the Republic era, he took active duty in the Straits Commission in Istanbul in 1925-1926. He supervised establishment efforts for the National Security Service Chairmanship and was appointed as the Director of National Security Service by Government Decree dated 25 December 1926. He was promoted to Staff Colonel on 3 August 1928. On 22 December 1936, his duty as Director being reserved, he retired from the Turkish Armed Forces with brigadier (colonel) rank. On 25 May 1937, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the position opened after Abdülhak Hamit Tarhan had passed away, and served as a Member of Parliament in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye representing Istanbul in 5th, 6th, and 7th terms.

Fluent in French and Russian, Şükrü Âli Ögel held two positions with the authorization of Prime Minister between 25 May 1937 - 07 July 1941, serving as a Member of Parliament and Director of Organization. Due to disagreements in principle with the then Prime Minister efik Saydam, he resigned from his position as Director on 7 July 1941.
