BEHÇET TÜRKMEN

A graduate of the Turkish Military Academy, Behçet Türkmen, as a staff captain, started serving in MAH Headquarters and various positions in the Turkish Armed Forces from 1 September 1931; he also served as the Deputy Military Attaché in Athens, and Deputy Commander of NATO Southeast Allied Land Forces.

Following Mehmet Naci Perkel’s assignment to Baghdad, he was appointed as the Director of MAH  on 3 September 1953 . He served in this position with the rank of lieutenant general  until 27 March 1957, on which he was appointed as Ambassador to Baghdad. Fluent in French, Behçet Türkmen was later appointed as Ambassador to Stockholm.
