Behçet TÜRKMEN (1899-1972)

 

Behçet Türkmen (born 1899) graduated from the Turkish Military Academy and was appointed as Staff Captain to the Directorate of National Security Services on 1 September 1931. He subsequently held various positions at the Armed Forces including Deputy Military Attaché to Athens and Deputy Commander of the NATO Southeast Land Forces.

Behçet Türkmen became Director of National Security Services on 3 September 1953 upon M. Naci Perkel’s appointment to Baghdad and held this position as Lieutenant General unti 27 March 1957, when he was appointed as Ambassador to Baghdad.

Fluent in French, Türkmen subsequently became Ambassador to Stockholm and passed away in 1972.
