Şenkal Atasagun (born 1941) graduated from Galatasaray High School and the School of Political Science at the University of Grenoble. He joined the National Intelligence Organization in 1967 upon completing his military service as a reserve officer. Atasagun held various positions at the departments of intelligence and operations. An expert on counter-intelligence, he served as Deputy Regional Director for Istanbul before leaving for an overseas assignment in Brussels and holding the position of Regional Director for Ankara. In 1995, Atasagun became Head of Operations and was dispatched to London for an overseas assignment two years later. He was appointed as Undersecretary on 11 February 1998 and retired on 11 June 2005.
