Sonmez KOKSAL (1940 - )
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Political
Sciences, the University of Ankara. He started his diplomatic career at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a candidate official at the Department of the
United Nations. Later on, he worked, in sequence, as Second Secretary at the
Department of Bilateral Economic Relations, as Chief Secretary at the Standing
Representation of Turkey to the Geneva Office of the UN, as Chief of Branch
at the Department of International Economic Relations, as the Consul General
in Burgas, as Undersecretary at the Embassy to Paris, as the Head at the Research
and Middle East Departments, as Deputy Director General at the International
Economic Relations, as Ambassador to Baghdad, and as the Standing Representative
of Turkey to the European Council. On November 09, 1992 he was appointed as
the Undersecretary of the MIT which he left on February 11, 1998. Since then,
he has been working as the Ambassador to Paris.
