It is essential that the MIT is able to have access to the existing data processing centers and the archives of the state institutions and organizations as well as that of the establishments providing public services, to implement coordination methods by establishing direct contacts with the responsible people and to acquire the necessary documents so as to provide rapid nationwide secure intelligence and to supply immediate, complete and healthy information to the authority that has made such a request.

HAVING ACCESS TO THE ARCHIVES OF STATE INSTITUTIONS

The Turkish National Intelligence Organization, aiming at orientating, collecting and counteracting intelligence, is authorized to establish direct contact with the Ministries and the directors of the other state institutions and organizations as well as that of the establishments providing public services as well as their employees responsible for the intelligence work, to implement the appropriate methods of coordination, to have access to the archives and the data processing centers of these Ministries and other state institutions and organizations as well as that of the establishments providing public services on the subjects that fall within its own field of responsibility.

USING THE RIGHTS AND AUTHORITIES OF THE POLICE

The MIT members, when carrying out their duties specified in the 4th Article of Law no. 2937, can use the rights and authorities of the police in protecting the installations and members of the MIT and in the field of counter-espionage. The principles and methods that determine the MIT members who are provided with the rights and authorities of the police are established by the related Regulation.

While there is a general rule that the MIT members have to cooperate with the security forces when using the rights and authorities of the police; those MIT members working in the field of counter-intelligence (counter-espionage) are authorized to use all the rights and authorities of the police in person.
